The Circus: A Factory of Modern Art • Musée de Montmartre, Paris: Loan to the Museum
For the exhibition The Circus: A Factory of Modern Art, the Musée de Montmartre explores the pivotal role of the circus in the emergence of the avant-garde and the visual languages of modernity. From Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec to Picasso and Chagall, the circus became a privileged space for artistic experimentation, where new ways of seeing and representing the world were invented.
Work on loan: Galerie de la Présidence is delighted to contribute to this exploration of the circus imagination through the loan of Marcel Gromaire’s 1931 watercolor Le Cirque. Through the strength of its composition and the intensity of its palette, the work reveals the full expressive power of a universe that, far beyond mere entertainment, has left a profound mark on the history of modern art.
