Maurice Denis Collectionneur • Musée Départemental, Saint-Germain-en-Laye: Loan to the Museum
The exhibition “Maurice Denis as Collector”, presented at the Musée départemental Maurice Denis in Saint-Germain-en-Laye from May 7, 2026, through January 31, 2027, unveils for the first time the remarkable collection assembled by the artist throughout his life.
Featuring nearly 150 works, including paintings, sculptures, Japanese prints, drawings, and archival materials, the exhibition offers an intimate portrait of Maurice Denis’s personal world. From Gauguin to Van Gogh, from Sérusier to Bonnard and Marquet, it highlights the artistic affinities, creative exchanges, and friendships that shaped one of the most distinctive collections of its era.
The exhibition also offers a rare opportunity to step inside an artist’s home, providing fresh insight into the intellectual and aesthetic journeys that accompanied the emergence of the avant-garde.
Work on loan: The Galerie de la Présidence is proud to support this event through the loan, arranged by the gallery, of Albert Marquet’s oil on canvas La Rochelle, the Porte de la Grosse Horloge Seen from the Quai (1920), which belonged to Maurice Denis in 1922. Denis praised Marquet’s “wonderful gifts,” as well as “his refinement and his remarkable sense of composition.”
