One Week in Art Galleries • Paris 2026: Art Week in Paris!
Art Week begins on Saturday!
Galerie de la Présidence is taking part in the 12th edition launching Art Week in Paris and will open its doors to you starting Saturday, October 17, and throughout the week from 10:30 a.m.
Organized by the Professional Committee of Art Galleries, this fully free event celebrates creativity in all its forms across various locations in the capital: exhibitions, performances, encounters, and discoveries will shape the week, and each gallery becomes a place of exchange and wonder.
This year, Galerie de la Présidence is preparing a special hanging dedicated to Jean DUBUFFET: “From Landscapes to Site.” This collection highlights a decisive stage in Dubuffet’s research, where the landscape motif transforms into a mental topography.
About the Selection:
The focused and dense presentation brings together five ink-and-collage works from 1980 and a painting from 1981, illustrating the shift from “Landscapes” to “Site.”
In the late 1970s and at the turn of 1980–1981, Dubuffet renewed his graphic vocabulary by emphasizing the primacy of the line and the materiality of collage. In the contained format of the sheet and the simplicity of black, Dubuffet’s “Landscape” is composed of layers of hatching, cells, and scribbles, with the human silhouette serving as an anchoring point.
Then, in 1981, the “Site” expands this logic: the painted surface, mounted on canvas, gives autonomy to the background through color and material. The composition becomes a living environment and reflects Dubuffet’s ongoing exploration of art brut and spontaneous gesture.
These works embody the transformation undertaken by Dubuffet: the graphic sign ceases to illustrate a setting and becomes a mental geography, where lines, textures, and collages form interior territories rather than exterior views.
