Jean DUBUFFET 1901-1985
With frame :
61 x 51 cm – 24 x 20 in.
Created on May 30, 1980, Landscape with Two Figures reflects Dubuffet’s renewed graphic language at the end of the 1970s. In this ink-and-collage sheet, the landscape is built as a network of hatching, cells, and vibrating lines, from which the two schematic figures emerge without dominating the space.
The setting is no longer descriptive: it becomes a mental field, an interior topography. This work foreshadows the transition toward the “Sites,” where Dubuffet explores an autonomous universe made of signs, materials, and rhythms.
